How To: Restore deleted Google Chrome Bookmarks

If you have accidentally deleted your Google Chrome bookmarks and need to restart them - keep Chrome open and follow the steps below. If you have closed and reopened Chrome - your backup will have already been rewritten, so these steps will likely not work.

  1. Launch the your File Explorer and navigate to the following location on your hard drive: C:\Users\(your user name)\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default
  2. Right-click the file labeled "Bookmarks.bak" and select "Rename" from the menu. This file is the most recent and automatically created backup of your bookmarks folder from the last time you started Chrome.
  3. Enter "Bookmarks" without the quotation marks as the new name of the file and press "Enter" on your keyboard. Overwrite the current file if prompted.
  4. Restart Google Chrome to restore the previously deleted bookmarks.
