How To: Fix no sound for videos or other apps on MacBook

No Sound on a Video or in other Apps
  1. Plug in the headphone and remove it
  2. Check earbud port to make sure nothing is stuck inside. If something is stuck inside the earbud port, go to the Help Desk.  
  3. Check the volume setting on the computer. 
  4. Check the volume setting on the video.
  5. Restart the program. 
  6. Restart the computer
  7. Reset SMC
    1. Power off MacBook
    2. Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
    3. On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time and hold for about 5 seconds
    4. Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.  The charger light should switch color from green to amber or amber to green
    5. Press the power button to turn on the computer and test your volume controls
  8. If that does not work, reset PRAM
    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in the next step
    3. Turn on the computer.
    4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
    5. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    6. Release the keys.
    7. Power on the computer
    8. Test your Volume
