How To: Reset Internet Explorer

Internet Explorer 8, 9, 10, 11 - Windows Vista/7/8 (Desktop UI)

  1. Select the "Tools" menu (8) or the gear-shaped icon in the top right corner of the browser (9,10,11).
  2. Click on "Internet Options" from the drop-down menu.
  3. In the new window, click "Delete..." under the "Browsing history" section.
  4. Ensure that "Temporary Internet files", "Cookies", and "History" are checked. Ensure "Preserve Favorites website data" is notchecked. Select any other options as desired.
  5. Click the "Delete" button at the bottom.
  6. Click "OK" to close the options window and then restart the browser.

Internet Explorer 10, 11 - Windows 8 (Metro UI)

  1. Hover the mouse along the right-hand side of the screen or use keyboard shortcut "Windows+C" to bring up the Charms bar.
  2. Select "Internet Options".
  3. Under the "Delete Browsing History" header click the "Delete" button".
  4. Restart your browser. 
    Note: Ensure the browser is completely closed before restarting. This can be done by hovering the mouse along the top of the window until the 'hand' icon appears, then dragging the window to the bottom of the screen, or by using the keyboard shortcut "Alt+F4".
